Tulsa is arguably the biggest surprise of the conference so far, but the Memphis Tigers have played their way into being a conference favorite. 

In all, eight of the 12 teams will be in action against each other on Friday.

Briarcrest, Central, Covington, MASE, Munford, Southwind and Whitehaven still ranked among the state’s best high school football teams in this week’s Tennessee Sports Writers Association poll.

Standouts from Collierville, Houston, Kirby, Melrose, St. George’s and White Station are up for consideration this week. Voting ends at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24.

After a big win Saturday in Oxford, Ole Miss is now ranked No. 4 in the Associated Press Top 25. Mississippi State is also ranked for the first time this season after its win over South Carolina.

Heading into their latest game, the Tigers football had some improvements to make. After the game, Memphis coach Charles Huff was pleased. 

The Redbirds posted their fourth straight game of eight runs or more to take the club’s fourth straight win at Nashville.

Robinson took over the track and cross country programs in 2007. He helped produce a 2018 NCAA champion in discus when Luke Vaughn won the title.

Stokes took care of the ball, didn’t try to throw the home run every time and was successful converting third downs in Saturday’s win.

Chambliss passed for 363 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a tiebreaking score in the fourth quarter, and No. 8 Ole Miss delighted a crowd that was already revved up about Kiffin’s return, beating the seventh-ranked Tigers 32-24 on Saturday night.

Faizon Brandon threw for 178 yards and one touchdown and ran for another to lead No. 15 Tennessee to a 42-9 win over Kennesaw State on Saturday night.

Quarterback Marcus Stokes had another solid night, finishing with 258 yards passing and four passing touchdowns. He completed 26-of-32 passes and didn’t play in the fourth quarter.
