The University of Memphis was offering three new value meals at Saturday’s season home opener, and food writer Sophia Surrett was there to check them out. 

The undefeated Memphis Tigers football team moved up among “Others Receiving Votes” in both the AP Top 25 and the coaches poll.

While the Liberty Stadium renovation touches were received well, some fans had issues with parking, concessions, tickets and their seats at the Tigers' first home game.

Thanks to a big season-opening win, Memphis football is getting closer to its goal of a capacity crowd for the opening of its newly renovated stadium. 

After executing a thrilling upset of UNLV last week, the Memphis Tigers are now preparing to play their first home game of the year against Arkansas State. 

The Protect College Sports Act, which has not been passed, would more than double the University of Memphis’ sports expenses — unless the Tigers move conferences.

Memphis has sold more football season tickets, but revenue is down and fundraising remains short of the Smith family’s $50M match. Also, basketball season ticket sales are only 1,988. 

Before the game, we didn’t know much about the team. But, after Saturday, some questions have been answered.

The 2026 Tigers went from being unknown to stealing the college-football spotlight in just one game.

It remains to be seen what Charles Huff will accomplish during the remainder of his tenure at Memphis. But no coach has gotten off to more exhilarating start.
