The Downtown Memphis Commission Design Review Board will review three projects at its Sept. 9 meeting.

With one location in the works, the California-based fast-food chain may have found a second spot in the Memphis area.

The main building includes a 200-seat performance hall and office space. The other part is a studio-apartment building.

The property has 285 lots, 60 of which are unoccupied. Of those, 30 have no homes on them at all while the other 30 have houses that have been vacant for years.

The combined firms have completed more than 100 justice-related projects valued at more than $1.5 billion.

“We need a really nice white-tablecloth restaurant, but not too expensive,” Gill Properties’ president said.

Construction of a gas station convenience store at the former Exxon Hop-In is expected to begin this month. 

Also, Montecito Medical Real Estate bought the Conrad Pearson Clinic property in Germantown for $24.5 million, and Birmingham, Alabama-based Hoar Construction has opened an office in East Memphis.

“We have got to come up with some means of keeping our tax base steady and, likewise, growing and developing our city,” the incoming Shelby County property assessor said. “Otherwise, we’re going to look like Gary, Indiana.”

The project initially stirred up residents because a data center was presented as a possible conditional use on part of the site. That was later removed, but pushback persisted.

The outdoor retailer plans to consolidate its operations Downtown.

The EDGE board will hear the application at its Aug. 19 meeting at Junior Achievement of Memphis and the Mid-South.

Central Lofts owners have entered a purchase agreement for the 127-unit apartment property.

“We do not have any immediate plans for the building and will demolish it for the safety and benefit of our staff, patients and visitors,” a Baptist Memorial Hospital executive said.
