The aldermen unanimously approved the amended outline plan for The Standard Germantown, formerly known as Carrefour at The Gateway.

After three years of operation through the challenges of a pandemic, Germantown Pharmacy has been successful enough to outgrow its space on Exeter Road. The business has relocated to 7465 Poplar Ave.

Four members of Germantown’s Harvest Church were killed in a plane crash in Yoakum, Texas, leaving behind church leaders, family members and community officials. 

The 18-acre site is zoned residential and a 38-lot subdivision was once approved for the area, but only three homes were ever developed. 

Steve Tucker, who was piloting a plane near Yoakum Municipal Airport when it crashed, killing him and three other passengers, was president of a saddle company located across the street from the small Texas town’s airport.

Many of the trees coming off the Germantown Country Club site will not be shipped off to a landfill. Farmington-Kimbrough Development Group wants the wood to be used for a new purpose.

Later Wednesday morning, an update from the church said the sole survivor was breathing on his own and communicating through writing.

Kroger in Germantown will not be allowed to sell beer Monday through Thursday, Jan. 16-19, 2023.

The art installation usually last between four and six months. Germantown is one of about 30 cities to have the blue trees.

Conrad Pearson will stay in Germantown but not move to a site as it had planned.

GMSD was the fourth and final vote by a government entity needed to approve the agreement regarding Germantown namesake schools operated by Memphis-Shelby County Schools within the suburb’s boundaries. 

Memphis-Shelby County Schools is now one step closer to getting the funding it needs for a new high school in the Cordova area.

Significant activity is underway at the site east of Germantown Road and north of Winchester.

The 8-5 vote by the commission came after an emotional debate and crossed party lines. It is the second of four votes on the deal that would transfer the namesake elementary and middle buildings to Germantown’s school system and greenlight the sale of Germantown High.

Under the current circumstances, Germantown High students feel heard as they are impacted by a new state law. They hope Shelby County approves a new high school for future students.

Germantown was the first of four government bodies to approve an agreement transferring two of the 3Gs to the suburb’s school system.

Jarred Thweatt wanted to spread joy with his light display. Although a ‘Grinch whiner’ tried to interfere, the community rallied to rescue the festive arrangement.

The agreement will be reviewed next week by Shelby County Board of Commissioners, City of Germantown, Memphis-Shelby County Schools Board of Education and the Germantown Municipal School District Board of Education.
