Opinion: Don’t confuse nationalism with patriotism

This year, I spent Independence Day weekend in New York, watching what may be the most spectacular Fourth of July fireworks display in America.

The lights over the harbor were dazzling. The crowds were immense. It was an iconic celebration as our nation marked its 250th anniversary at a bay where the Hudson River and East River meet, and it feels like the very entrance to the U.S.
