The early and absentee vote totals for the 14 days of the early voting period were the first released Thursday, Aug. 6, by the Shelby County Election Commission.

Also, two Memphians — Heidi Kuhn and Marquita Bradshaw — quickly secured Democratic nominations Thursday, Aug. 6.

Just two incumbents won reelection in the six judicial races on Thursday’s ballot.

State Sen. Brent Taylor continued his political ascendance Thursday night, winning the 9th Congressional District Republican nomination.

State Rep. Justin J. Pearson capitalized on his nationwide fame and appeared ready to cruise to an easy victory in the Democratic primary. 

The Millington races for seats on the suburb’s Board of Education went as expected, as all of the candidates were unopposed, setting the stage for November’s general election.
