Football is a game. Cancer? That’s real life.

And now that St. Benedict coach Kevin Cobbs has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, he wants to share a message to his fellow football tough guys.

Get checked. And stay positive.

We’re also positive about this: Briarcrest volleyball is premier high school dynasty in Shelby County. The Saints won their second state title in a row, fourth in the last five years and eighth since 2016 this week, beating Christ Presbyterian Academy in five sets.

In soccer, Houston downed Collierville for the second time this season, and the stakes couldn’t have been higher. The Mustangs, who are still undefeated and untied, are now the region champions.

And, as always, we need your help in spotlighting our top high school athletes. Coach and stat-keepers can send in their scores, highlights and top performers from each game either by emailing jvarlas@dailymemphian.com or on X @johnvarlas.
