Memphis Police Department officers responding to a No Kings rally in Downtown Memphis Saturday arrested and pepper sprayed protesters and ramifications from those moves are reverberating as the new week begins. A coalition of 25 community groups are demanding accountability measures and Mayor Paul Young said that the cops involved in the confrontation have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

The three-year bid to halt construction of the new Memphis Art Museum hit another barrier in Shelby County Chancery Court last week when the lawsuit was dismissed.

XAI’s two Memphis data centers have been appraised at about $3.5 billion, according to documents obtained by The Daily Memphian. The appraisals help to determine how much Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company will pay in property taxes.

The five former Memphis police officers who beat Tyré Nichols on Jan. 7, 2023, could soon no longer face civil liability in his death. And within a few hours of MPD Chief C.J. Davis speaking to the Memphis City Council Tuesday about steps the department could take to prevent downtown shootings, another shooting involving teenagers occurred in Tom Lee Park. It was the third in less than a week.
